Over the next several weeks I am going to be doing a detailed overview of each of our boat systems. A lot of these systems are something everyone has in their terrestrial homes but with an interesting flair that is special for a boat. Below is a brief synopsis of what to expect. I plan on creating an entire article on each system:
Drinking Water
I will elaborate on our fresh water system, plumbing system, tankage, pressurized system, hot water and how we get and/or make our own drinking water and how me make sure we have enough water not to be "stinky sailors". We have a several tier filtration system that makes sure our water tastes as good as the water out of the home tap. (Systems Post #1)
Sewage System and Grey System (or lack thereof)
All that drinking water has to show up somewhere. I'll go into the marine head (we have two) and how each one is different. Our holding tank system and disposal methods will also be a point of discussion. I will also discuss grey water which includes dish water and shower water. Since I am in the middle of rebuilding the pumps on both of the heads, I probably will go into that effort also. (Systems Post #2)
Internet
This will go over how we get our internet and how we network that information over the boat. I will also be discussing our future upgrades that will assist us keeping connected while we are far afield. There will be significant overlap on internet throughout many of the topics so this will pop up a lot. (Systems Post #3)
Communication
How we communicate is a very important item for sailing in remote places. From VHF, SSB, satellite communication and the tried and true cell phone. All of these items will be discussed. With that I am sure the internet topic will come up. (Systems Post #4)
Navigation and Weather Routing
Chart plotters, autopilots, wind instruments, AIS, Windy, PredictWind, QtVlm and OpenCPN are things I'll cover. If you don't know a few of those terms...stay tuned. (Systems Post #5)
Electrical System
I will go over our entire system and how we plan on keeping off the grid for extended periods of time. I did a recent article that included our battery, solar and alternator upgrades. The Electrical System article will go over the entirety of our 12 volt and 120 volt system on Utopia. (Systems Post #6)
Entertainment
From Netflix to Spotify. What systems have I added to the boat to make my boat a floating home theater? What things do I want to add? I always was big on having a nice place to watch a movie with decent sound. What could I possible add to the boat to make this happen?
Engine and Fuel Systems
This is the overview of our engine and our very large tanks and fuel polishing system.
