The last part of our USA tour took place on the west coast where we visited family in Central Oregon and Northern California. Activities included hiking, a prison, and a baseball game.

Our road trip reached its westernmost point in Mississippi before beginning the return back north through Florida, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

With the hike over, we begin a road trip south to visit friends and family. In this post we start out in Maine and end up Alabama where we went our first kayak trip on a river with rapids.

Lemonade completes her last six days of her planned section hike on the Appalachian Trail (AT) with mixed results while Trail Horse stays warm and dry in the van.

This week we encountered the hardest part of the entire AT and met a legend.

We are hitting the open road, and Sondra is hitting the Appalachian trail again in New Hampshire and Maine. Trail Horse and Lemonade are back in action!

This week our luggage remained in one location while we explored Cape Ann by day. Here is a recap of places and sights we saw in and around the Massachusetts towns of Gloucester, Essex, and Rockport, as well as a sail on Massachusetts Bay.

We ended up traveling over 3,000 miles this week via boats, buses, cars, planes, subway, and a train from Utopia in Rio Dulce, Guatemala to Quest II Gloucester, Massachusetts.

Over the past two weeks we have been busy getting things ready for a two-month trip away from Utopia. This involved preparing the boat, planning our travel schedule with a long stay in the States, and practicing some hiking. This year we assisted Hope Fleet with delivering supplies to a children’s charity in Guatemala. It was a super easy process, and we encourage any cruisers heading to the Bahamas, Dominican Republic or Guatemala to consider participating.

Our first week in Guatemala has been a great experience with new sights, new cultures, meeting new people from all over the world and opportunities for practicing Spanish as we settle into our home for the remainder of the year and start thinking about projects.

After completing a full week at a quiet anchorage with no land access, it was time to leave Belize. We chose to clear out of the country in Punta Gorda on Tuesday, checked into Guatemala in Livingston the next day and began our journey up the Rio Dulce.

We stopped at Placencia to replenish Utopia’s stores and then moved south in our final days in Belize.

While staying at a very nice free marina, we met several cruisers heading to Guatemala. From there, we headed out to some remote cays to enjoy very quiet anchorages.

During our last few days in the Placencia area we visited Monkey River and prepared for some off-the-grid cruising. After departing Placencia we visited Lagoon Cay and the Pelican Cays which is where The Hideaway is located.

We visited some locations that we saw when we chartered another boat in Belize in 2018. We also try to tackle a solar issue and extend our Visa.

We visited some amazing sites this week and share some key moments for this part of our visit to Belize, from swimming with fish, visiting UNECO sites, seeing rare birds and being terrified for our lives.

Caye Caulker was a delightful change from Belize City, and apparently it is a popular spot to spend Easter Weekend. The more time we spent here, we could understand why it attracts a lot of ex-pats, and the more we came to love this little town along the Belize Barrior Reef.

We finally made it to Belize! We spent our first week resting from our trip and getting familiar with the area and venturing out to Belize City and visited some Mayan caves.
