Now that we have been in St. Pete for three months, I though I would give an update on our boat projects. As in all things boat, the goal is to do projects as fast or faster than they are added to the list. This is a list of the big ones that are done or ongoing:
Shaft Seal-We did a short haul in March and had a new shaft seal placed in one day. This should last us another 5 to 10 years hopefully.
Radar-We successfully installed a new radar, and it is functioning. That was one of the sketchier installations since I had to take the old one off and lift the new one in place while dangling 40’ up the air.
Valve adjustment-Adjusted valves on our Yanmar diesel. I had someone do it while I looked on. I feel I can do it next time (in about 1000 hrs.).
Descaling raw water circuit for diesel- Guy did it while he did the valves. I will do it myself next time.
New Inverter/Charger- Due to the small fire we upgraded this and future proofed it for our upcoming lithium battery.
Those were the ones we have completed in the last three months. Over the next 6 months we plan on completed the following items (among other smaller projects):
New Bimini side curtains and zippers for the cockpit enclosure-Had some repair done on a portion of the dodger/cockpit enclosure. This should last us a few more years where at that time we will do the entire enclosure (hopefully in another country!).
New Lithium batteries and solar-This is an upcoming project that will start at the end of April. We will take the boat over to their facility on April 25th to start the work. We expect the boat to be there a week or two.
New Whisker Pole and track-At the same time we are having the batteries installed we are going to have a new whisker pole mounted on the mast for easy deployment.
Chaps for dingy-I am looking forward to having some made for our new dinghy to protect from the tropical sun and puncture from mishaps at sketchy docks.
Seacock replacement-Brand new project. This past weekend we discovered one of our seacocks was not closing and there really isn’t anything to do but replace it. Still trying to figure out if we can do it in the water or not. If we had only known about it when we hauled a few weeks back, we could have addressed it while it was out of the water.
Sondra or I will try to give an update on this quarterly, so let’s hope this list is much smaller in July. I fully expect there to be new items on it.

Big projects under your belt! Hope you are getting in a few days on the water too!
