Watching the New Year's Weekend Weather

Updated: Jul 12, 2023

There may be a possibility to move Utopia to St. Petersburg New Year's Weekend. Jimmy has been checking weather and wave forecasts to see when we might have a good window to make the jump from Apalachee Bay. The trip is roughly 150km and could take between 25 & 35 hours. Since this is the first crossing with just the two of us, we are looking for a mild weather window.

At the moment it looks like we may vacate our ABYC slip on Saturday. The latest would leave is Monday, due to a work meeting I need to attend in Miami on Thursday. When we do leave, our Garmin InReach tracker should be on and providing 10-minute updates along the way. Feel free to check out our progress by using the link provided on the Home page, on the About page, and here: https://share.garmin.com/N3JAX.

We will head down to the boat, with Baxter, after work on Friday (12/30) and make final preparations. If storms have passed through before the morning high tide we will leave before 10 a.m. on Saturday, 12/31. Otherwise will plan to leave with the second high tide of the day, around 6 p.m. Of course, new weather forecasts could change our plans.

Fingers crossed that the next post will be made while sitting in our new marina.
