23-38 Chores from Alabama to Florida

Just a quick update to say that not much has changed in our plans, and we now have only three weeks left in the office and in our apartment. This past week has been busy for Jimmy and me, with a lot of solo travel between the two of us. Monday night he spent in Jacksonville for an early morning doctor’s appointment. Tuesday night we were both home and loaded up the Jeep with electronics for Austin. Wednesday afternoon I drove to Orlando for a work trip, returning on Friday just in time to attend Jimmy’s noon doctor’s appointment in Tallahassee. A few hours after seeing the doctor, Jimmy took off to spend the weekend in Alabama.

Photographs in albums, frames and boxes that need attention

His weekend was filled with chores helping his father and setting up Austin’s new living room equipment. I spent the time back in the apartment sorting and cleaning. There are piles all over the place. Those for items going to the boat next weekend, items that will be donated or to the trash, items being held for friends and family, stuff that might go to the boat, but I might need for the next three weeks here in Tallahassee. Then there is one big “headache” pile. It is filled with loose photos, photo albums and framed photos. This is my last major to-do pile in the apartment.

Oh, I also used a sewing machine for the first time. Hurricane Idalia had caused some damage to the canvas on Utopia, and a friend offered to help me repair them on his Sailrite (which he had purchased from another cruising couple we know). He kindly picked me up from the apartment and we spend about two hours learning how the Sailrite works, removing old threading and re-seaming the canvas. I must admit that I only sewed one line during the whole job, and it was not very straight. I am thankful that my friend was willing to do most of the work. His lines were much straighter than mine. I just might be brave enough to purchase a machine in the future should the opportunity arise. That is, after I get over the fact that buying a machine means it will need to take up volume somewhere on the boat.

Speaking of taking up volume, a lot of the sorting for the weekend was going through my closet and making some tough decisions. At the moment, I suspect that I am taking too much stuff to the boat. Anyway, we will just figure it all out once on board in October, and perhaps make a nice donation to the free pile at marinas along the way.
